In an Auction League fees players are acquired in an auction with the money resulting from that auction, along with fees for player trades, free agent signings and roster moves, being put into a prize fund. At the end of the season the prize fund is divided among the top finishers in the league. There is also an option for WEEKLY cash prizes in an Auction league. A DRAFT LEAGUE is a just for fun league. There are no fees collected or prizes distributed in a Draft League. Players are acquired in an annual round-by-round player draft with the drafting order being the reverse order of last year's finish. {pg.4} QBRATING rates a passer on percentage of completions, average yards per attempt, touchdown ratio and interception ratio. {P.5} RUSHING YARDAGE includes all yardage gained on running plays. This includes those yards gained by QBs on runs and those yards gained by receivers on reverses, etc. {P.5} RUSHING YARDS PER ATTEMPT is the average gain per carry on running plays. This stat includes yardage gained by QBs and receivers on rushing plays. {P.5} RECEPTIONS is the number of passes caught by all players. This stat includes passes caught by running backs. {P.5} PASSING YARDAGE takes into account all yardage gained by QBs passing and all yardage gained on pass receptions (including passes caught by running backs). {P.5} PASSING YARDS PER ATTEMPT is the total of yardage gained by QBs passing plus the total yardage gained on pass receptions (including running backs) divided by the total of passes attempted plus pass receptions. {P.5} TOTAL YARDAGE is a composite of yards gained passing, rushing and receiving. {P.5} TEAM AVERAGE GAIN PER PLAY is total yards gained passing, rushing & receiving divided by pass attempts, rush attempts and receptions. {P.5} TEAM TOTAL POINTS is the number of tds scored by all members of the team (including defense) multiplied by 6. You may optionally add kicker points to this total. (Next Option). {P.5} INCLUDE KICKER IN TOTAL PTS. requires each team to draft a kicker. Kickers field goals and extra points are added to TEAM TOTAL POINTS. {P.5} TACKLES (DEFENSE) is the total number of tackles made by your defensive players. Make sure your paper publishes this stat before choosing it! {P.5} QB SACKS is the number of times your defensive players throw opposing QBs for a loss attempting to pass. {P.5} INTERCEPTIONS is the total number of interceptions by the members of your defensive team. {P.5} Use LEFT & RIGHT ARROW Keys to move highlight. Press <ENTER> to select. If your newspaper lists player statistics using the TOTAL stats for the season then choose the USA Today style update. If your paper publishes the stats for the previous game only then choose the box score update. {pg.6} 1st&Goal supports leagues of 2 to 15 teams. The registered version allows you to add expansion teams without reconfiguring your league. Input the drive and directory that will hold your data files. Input the number of years that a player will remain under contract after being drafted. The default (and recommended) contract is 3 years. After a player's contract expires he may be drafted by another team. This is the amount that a players salary goes up for each year his contract is extended. If you own a player who's contract is $10 and you re-sign him for 3 years his salary would go to $25 (10+5+5+5). {pg.13} This is the amount of money that may be spent by a team during the player draft. This amount includes the contracts of players being carried over from previous seasons. {pg.16} Input the amount that the league will charge for EACH player involved in a trade. This amount may be split among both teams involved in the trade or be paid by one team or the other. {pg.21} Input the fee charged by the league for signing a free agent. This fee is in addition to the player's salary and is added to the prize fund. {pg.22} Input the fee charged for moving a player from reserve to an active position. This fee is added to the prize fund. Default (and recommended) is no charge. Weekly payoffs are based on what the ACTIVE members of the team did in the previous week ONLY. When you calculate league standings, the weekly standings will automatically be calculated. How many weeks are in the regular season of the league you are drawing your players from? Use this option in case your computer's clock-calendar is improperly set. Use this option to begin your player draft or auction depending on your league type. Prize fund options allow you to adjust the money owed to the fund, view winnings to date or team expenditures to date. Use this option to close out the season. Before you select CLOSE OUT SEASON make sure that you have a list of each team's off season roster. This option resets all player statistics and the prize fund. Select this option to print out a registration form. You may also order the registered version of the program using any major credit card by calling 1-800-2424-PsL. The registered version allows 30 player rosters and unlimited transactions. Exit 1st&Goal and return to your computer's operating system. The LEAGUE EDITOR allows you to change an owner or team name, add an expansion team or delete a team. 1st&Goal has detected statistics in your player files. If you want to hold a player draft, return to the main menu and select CLOSE OUT SEASON under COMMISSIONER's OPTIONS. This will reset all stats in preparation for a new season. If the league that you are drawing your talent from has already started play answer 'YES'. The statistics for each player to date will be entered when you draft the player. You will get credit for statistics accrued from this date forward. Rosters must be reduced to the off season roster limit before entering the draft. Use the RELEASE PLAYER option under INDIVIDUAL PLAYER OPTIONS in the MANAGER'S OPTIONS section to pare the roster down to proper size. Use this option to select the player you wish to add to your team. Use this option to view the players that you have designated as starters and determine the positions remaining open or weak spots that you wish to strengthen. Use this option to view your entire roster including reserves. Helpful in determining how many roster spots remain open or your team's depth at any position. Use this option to trade players with another manager during the draft. Draft choices may be traded but the program does not keep track of traded draft choices. Simply use SELECT ANOTHER TEAM when the trading team's turn arrives to trade the choice. This option searches all teams in the league for a player. Useful in determining whether or not a player is under contract to another team before drafting him. Use this option to allow another team to make this choice. In a draft league you may use this option in the case of a traded draft choice. {pg.17} QUIT DRAFT (or AUCTION). You will be given the further option of just quitting for today, closing out this season's draft, or returning to the draft. If you quit for today the draft will begin again on the round that you left off on. Roster sizes are limited in the shareware version of the program. You may order the registered version with 30 man rosters and unlimited transactions by using the REGISTER 1st&GOAL option under EXIT TO DOS on the main menu. This team's expenditures (including players carried into the auction) exceeds the limit agreed on in the initial league meeting. Use the UP, DOWN, LEFT & RIGHT ARROW Keys to locate the position you want this player to occupy. Press <ENTER> to select. If another player currently occupies the selected position, he will automatically be assigned to RESERVE. Use this option if you chose QUIT DRAFTING by mistake. You will be returned to the draft in the same spot where you left off. QUIT FOR TODAY will allow you to conduct your player draft (or auction) in several sessions. When you return to the draft you will be in the same round as you were when you left. YOU MUST CLOSE OUT YOUR DRAFT BEFORE STARTING YOUR SEASON. CLOSE OUT DRAFT will end your player draft for this season. Any players added after this option has been chosen will be added as free agents. YOU MUST USE THIS OPTION BEFORE STARTING YOUR SEASON! Use this option ONLY after making sure that you have entered this players stats in ALL appropriate categories. For example make sure that you have entered any rushing stats by a QB. PASSING STATS includes pass attempts by any team member, including RB's attempts on option plays. Use this option if you selected QB rating, Passing Yardage, or Passing Yardage Per Attempt as stats that count toward league standings. RUSHING / RECEIVING stats include runs attempted by QB's. Use this option if you selected Rushing Yardage, Rushing Yards Per Attempt, Receptions or Passing Yardage as statistics. Use this option to input the number of field goals and extra points by your kicker. Use this option ONLY if you choose Include Kicker Points in Total during the setup procedure. DEFENSIVE STATS include Tackles, Qb Sacks & Interceptions. Use this option only if you chose any of these stats during the set up procedure. Use the UP & DOWN Arrow keys to select the team that you want to work with. Press <ENTER> to select. * VIEW PLAYER STATS * use this option to view a player's contract status or his statistics in any category. * CHANGE POSITION * use this option to assign this player to another position on your team or to move him to reserve. * EXTEND CONTRACT * (AUCTION LEAGUES ONLY!!!) will allow you to sign a player to a guaranteed, multi-year contract. Salary will increase according to amount choosen in setup. You have the option to cancel after viewing the new contract. {P.10} * RELEASE THIS PLAYER * allows you to cut this player from your roster. If this player is under guaranteed contract you will have to pay the amount remaining on his contract. {P.10} This option allows you to change the player's team in case of a trade. Since stat update is done team-by-team this will allow you to keep players in the proper order. Return to 1st&Goal's main menu. (STAT UPDATE - MANAGER'S OPTIONS - COMMISSIONER'S OPTIONS - EXIT TO DOS) Input this player's TOTAL season stats EXACTLY as they appear in the paper. 1st&Goal will deduct reserve stats from active stats for you automatically depending on the player's assigned position. Input the player's stats for the last game played ONLY. 1st&Goal will total the season stats for you and deduct reserve stats from active stats based on the player's assigned position. Use this option to change the name of a team or an owner without changing the team's roster. Useful in case of a change of ownership. This option allows you to add an expansion team without going through the setup procedure again. DELETE A TEAM allows you to remove a team in case an owner quits and there is nobody interested in buying into the league. Return to 1st&Goal's main menu. Answer 'YES' if this player's contract has already been extended. Note that a player's contract may only be extended once (Although editing this will let you get around this rule.) You may search for all or any part of a player's name. For example a search for 'WIL' would reveal WILson, WILliams & WILl Jones. The search is not case sensitive. You may enter either upper case or lower case letters or both. Input the year that this player's contract expires. Note that the contract is valid until the END of the year you enter. Input the manner that this player was acquired by this team. Example 1991 player draft, trade with Tequila MockingBirds or signed as free agent. This option will allow you to edit the player's name, the year his contract expires, the number of contract extensions and the way in which he was acquired by this team. Allows you to correct any errors in stat input. Make sure you have a list of the correct stats before choosing this option. Exit PLAYER EDITOR and return to main menu. Any changes made will be saved.
